Check out our list of the best boy bands throughout generations, from *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys of the ‘90s to today’s BTS and Jonas Brothers.
From screaming fans of the Beatles in the 1960s to the height of the Jackson Five’s fame in the ‘70s straight on to the ARMY members devoted to BTS today, boy bands have had a hold on music listeners throughout many generations.Of course, there’s not one way to define a boy band. Some groups, like Five Seconds of Summer, play instruments while others, like the iconic boy bands of the ‘90s and early ‘00s, grace the stage with their mind-blowing choreography. But if there’s one thing boy bands do have in common, it’s their loyal and (lovingly) chaotic fanbases. Whether you’re a Directioner or an EXO-L, being part of any boy band fandom comes with excitement, love, and, of course, all the music imaginable.Speaking of heartbreaking band breakups, 1D might have disbanded years ago (and former member Zayn Malik left even earlier than that), but they’ll always live on in our hearts. Zayn, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan first came together on the 2010 season of The X Factor, after which they very quickly achieved star-level status. In recent years, each 1D boy has gone on to solo careers (with Harry hitting the big screen as well).

Boy Band is ABC's reality television series that began on June 22, 2017. After thousands of singer auditions, the top thirty were chosen and flew to Los Angeles to audition for one of the 18 spots. With Rita Ora as the host of the music competition, the three judges called "architects" Emma Bunton, Nick Carter, and Timbaland critiqued each performance and determined which two contestants were up for elimination. And for the first time ever, viewers at home voted for their favorite five band members, live, creating a group America can truly call its own. The first season of Boy Band averaged a 0.56 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.46 million viewers.[5] The ratings have dropped since its premiere. After architects collectively decided which two (three in later episodes) boys were put up for elimination, the American audience voted live for which potential boy band member to save. Each week they voted using the "Boy Band Live" app.[3] After the top eight contestants performed their solo performance, America voted over the ABC website for a 24-hour period, allowing a maximum of 1000 votes across a device.[4]

From the Jackson 5 and Monkees to N'Sync, BTS, and One Direction: pre-fab pop’s most scream-worthy songs.
As music has evolved, so have boy bands. Their existence is a pop constant but parameters have always been blurred: sometimes they dance and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they are total strangers, sometimes they have known each other since birth. Sometimes they sing words they’ve written themselves, sometimes they sing other people’s.Six years after splitting up, the Jonas Brothers released their fifth full-length album, Happiness Begins, and redefined what it meant to be a freshly reunited boy band. Prior to their latest run, boy band reunions based around the release of new music weren’t usually guarantees for success.Of course boy bands can be poignant, but it’s rare to get to see them flex with lyrics that go beyond romantic musings and heartbreak reflections. With “Spring Day,” BTS challenged that perception by analyzing grief and yearning in the form of a sweeping power ballad. With the boys smartened up in Versace suits for the single cover, “Back For Good” signified a new maturity for the band, which disappointed those fond of TT’s campier disco origins — the NME called it “just too classy.” It’s doubtful Take That’s 2006 comeback would have been quite as successful without “Back For Good” having laid the groundwork, preparing adolescent fans to become a grown-up pop audience.

Bandboy (also expressed as band boy) is a bygone term for a job similar to for what now is known as a "roadie." They set up, tear down, and maintain equipment, and music. They help out backstage with tasks such as making sure that towels, drinks, and ice are available.Unlike a roadie, the bandboy was more like a personal assistant, or au pair, or butler/dresser for the leader — making sure suits were dry cleaned, shoes shined, and the like. On foreign tours a local bandboy would translate, find places to eat, change money, buy train tickets, and perform similar tasks.Often the bandboy would disseminate information for the leader, hand out itineraries, room lists, and set lists. The role of bandboy was different with every band and had different duties than the more senior road manager, who dealt with promoters, booking agents, contracts, payroll, and catering. When times got tough financially, road managers or band members themselves often performed bandboy duties.Edward F. Gabel (1924–2014), Stan Kenton (left Kenton as bandboy to work for Earle Spencer as manager in 1947)

I recently watched "The Idea of You," a middle aged female wish fulfillment fantasy on Amazon Prime. It struck me as archaic in two ways. One, Coachella is cool. And two, the male romantic interest is part of a boy band headlining the festival.I think the sort of “traditional” popular teen-heartthrob-esque boy band concept has shifted almost entirely over to korea at this point, but I think the boyband drought occurred first and then kpop filled in the gap after a relatively long period of dormancy.Kpop has boybands but I feel like overall, it’s different from western boybands in terms of longevity, music style, and even the individual members. A lot of non kpop fans will watch a kpop group for the first time and be like “so who is the one that everyone likes? The leader?” Which used to confuse me bc with kpop bands, people are usually like OT(how many ever members there are).Boy Band popularity tend to have 7 to 10 yr cycles from what I've seen in my life. New Kids on the Block and a few others peaked in the late 80s and then boy Bands went away til the late 90s when Backstreet Boys, NSync and others rose to prominence. When they faded their was a lull again til One Direction and contemporaries.
Boy bands, girl groups, mixed-gender ensembles. Soulful warbles, whistle registers, gritty resonance.

Far out, man. The Hanson brothers joined the ranks of fellow '90s boy bands with hit song, "MMMBop." Hanson released an album together in 2013 before brothers Isaac Hanson, Taylor Hanson and Zac Hanson went their separate ways for solo careers—and in Taylor's case, raising seven kids!

From New Kids On The Block to The Osmonds and B2K to BTS, we count down the biggest and best boy bands of all time in this list.
The progenitors of the form surely include choreography-friendly vocal groups from the 60s and 70s, such as Jackson 5 and The Osmonds, and the likes of New Kids On The Block and Bros were topping the transatlantic charts during the 80s, even before the term “boy band” was coined.Boy bands as we know them, however, went stratospheric during the 90s, with UK industry moguls Nigel Martin-Smith, Simon Cowell, and Louis Walsh unleashing multi-million-selling protégés including Take That, Boyzone and East 17. In the US, meanwhile, you had Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and B2K, among many others.Menudo is remembered today as the group that launched Ricky Martin, but for those growing up in Latin America throughout the 70s and 80s, they were simply the best boy band of all time. The Backstreet Boys were a hit from the beginning: Their self-titled debut album was a best-seller, with songs like “As Long As You Love Me” and “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart).” What’s perhaps most special about the group, though, is their longevity: They’re the only boy band to top the U.S.
